Godey's Lady's Book online sources

I love Godey's Lady's Books, not just for the fashions and patterns but for the recipes as well. Which really are pretty good most of the time.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to collect the various issues and honestly I just don't have the nerve to keep anything that old and fragile. So I have contented myself with digging through (and ooh-ing over) online pdf files of them.

Ha! I know what you mean- it takes a very brave person to open one, doesn't it? We do have some era books, etc, but it's more than my life's worth to page through any of them. I've DONE it but it ages you.

Glad I could help. And I know all about gray roots myself. (I was an attractive young woman once, before the children came...)

That's one of the hazards of research - I'm looking for info on the battle of Petersburg and the next thing I'm downloading cookbooks and looking through Godey's. Shakes head - anyway archive.org was in a snit the other day but is behaving itself now so here are some more links

Accessible Archives has the full run 1830 to 1898 but it's a $60.00 a year subscription. I indulged as a birthday present to myself, so if anyone wants me to hunt anything up for them just let me know.
