Great work. I love thoughtful, true, delicate restorations like these. It shows that those were, indeed, modern times. That camera had some great glass for its time, too.

Was not a comment on your cropping, but more of the photographer that shot it in the first place. Maybe Sherman had a softer side that he was trying to show....

Umm...don't get started.... besides the bottom of the frock coats were belled a bit as to lay flat against the thigh when astride a horse. This 'cut' is also found in "huntsman" frock coats aka "Scarlett" coats and carried over into the lady's hunting attire (as in Foxhunting and showing).
With the uniform being specific to its length, it had to be functional over fashion.

Hmm. Good question. Clumsy wording on my part. Recreations, perhaps? I've seen bad colouring jobs before, but this is certainly a thoughtful one and really brings him to life, so, er - yeah, delicate!
