Vendor Feedback

I know the style im looking for,im just trying to find it,. Ive seen it online before,i just cant remember were. It was brown and had a makers mark on the front of it. yellowish fur strip on the inside with a brass snap.
You are likly thinking of the Horter & George Magee shield front cap box. Jarnigan makes a dubious version of this:

However MB&S's is the one to go with:

It should be noted that Jarnagin has a reputation for creatively interpreting facts and the definition of "reproduction" within the living history community. To the extent that he has inspired the term "Jarnagin-ism" A pound, rather than a mere grain, of salt is de rigueur.

jarnagins is like i said earlier..very hit and miss...Some of their products are nice,others..not so much...

Most among the truly authentic/progressive community would say near 100% miss, but you can pay your money and take your choice as you please.

Highly recommend the Sillman's Wood Portable inkwell. The owner adds the proper seal before shipping it out and having three--none have leaked ink, even though jostled and handled roughly.

I will mention that I am disappointed with the pen staffs. Staff/Clerk impressions will know that the U.S. Army/Union issued ink as well -- Black, Red and Copy Ink. Because it took time and contaminated the ink if dipping into all the bottles with the same pen staff/nib; the shafts were colored black = black; red = red and orange = copy ink. These particular pen staffs (getting six of them to review) weren't uniformed in the receiver portion where the nib goes. It should hold anything from mapping nib to a Gillott #303 and Gillott #404. Therefore, I still recommend pen staffs from "Sullivan Press."

Regimental Blank Books do match to Quarter-Master standards. The 'set' is an Order Book, Letter Book and Misc. Book.

CD-ROMs for Union and Confederate forms are sold, saves on buying individual packets.

johan_steele good info thanks Milkcreek was good before they ripped me off , I have three complete uniforms CSA General, Union Reg. Quartermaster, CSA Reg . Quartermaster, I like Kennshaw Mountain Ga. .

if you dont mind me asking how did they rip you off was it on quality or is it too personal to tell on here? i am thinking on getting some items from them this year

Just a headsup on Milkcreek. I in my more weaker moments years ago bought a coat from them. Now, I didn't look carefully at the wording, so it is my fault. Most of their coats are made from blanket wool. or something close to it. So buyer beware. Read carefully. 20 oz. wool is too heavy to wear. Unless your in the dead of winter. A proper sack coat should be 8 oz. wool/flannel. Just to show you the difference. I would not buy any jacket over 12 oz.

ask for the weight of the material. aka thickness. I'll bet they are too heavy for proper wear. Plus I'll bet the jeanwool is a coarse open weave. True jeancloth used were of a much tighter weave. After all they were trying to make it as close to broadcloth as they could. If you have ever seen or owned a proper jeancloth jacket such as done by W&W company, and compared it to those cheap mainstream material, it is like night and day.

I have ordered a civilian frock coat fro james country mercantile.I love the design in the pic.Now I first contacted these people on april 12 and it is now august 8 and my coat is still not done.Needless to say I am getting antsy and wonder if anyone else has done buisness with this company, and is this a usual time-frame?

Pvt.A.Wells Blockade, Reg QM, Fall creek etc .their are a lot of sulters on the net . Kennshaw mountain have been good to me boot, leather, etc. for basic ready made Military Supply Company in Illinois is good.
I like Kennesaw Mountain, and bought some modern uniform stuff for my son to play dress-up (he wanted my old DCUs but they're still too big for him). I do have a question on Blockade Runner- I saw in the catalog a "Col. Button Pattern Frock Coat", which has 8 buttons in groups of 2...I thought this was a Generals' pattern? I've searched for references supporting this, but I can only find the standard 2 rows of 7. Is this accurate, or is there anything supporting this? After reading the comments on this thread (in particular, I've read comments on other threads as well) about some vendors' offerings being "less than accurate", I have to admit to being a bit confused. Forgive me for being naive, but it seems as though CW uniforms are are fairly niche market, and it would be in the vendors' interests to make them as accurate as possible?

Consider the source Shadow. Two button arrangements are indeed intended for general rank officers, however expecting the mainstream (Read: farby) retailers such as Blockade Runner, Fall Creek, C&C etc. to do the research and offer consummately accurate reproductions at rock bottom prices is asking way too much.

Ditto the other thread inquiring about General rank Buff facings and the wide variance one sees in reproductions. The main reason for that is indifference in accuracy.
