Well finished! In the end I chose to use BLO to wipe the stock down (flooded the surface waited 15 minutes and wiped off excess), used two coats. She was really dry and thirsty! Took just over 72 hours to cure. Still left the dirt and dents and character.....just protected now. After I finished up the metal, I wiped down with wonderlube 1000 (I've had really positive experience with it in the past), might replace with wax in the future I don't know. The metal definitely retained its patina, still has all the stains, pits, and character.....just No rust. Hoping it's safe for the next 100years now....what do you think? How'd I do

Great Job, turned out to be a nice piece.

Very attractive.
Do you believe the surface of the metal has less shine - is more a matte finish - that before you took the rust off?

Yes a little, but rubbing wonderlube 1000 in really took the shine out of it! I may wind up removing that and just using wax. I could have polished it bright again, but didn't want to. Just out of curiousity why do you ask?

Some chemcial rust removers will etch the metal and leave it dull or even gray in color - this is what Naval Jelly does if you leave it on for a time. It is not just a color change, but leaves the surface frosty.
I wondered if your product did that

I did research before and contacted them via email they specifically stated that it did not etch. Not sure what the heck is in it, but it's not even an acid! I know what you mean about naval jelly, and this didn't do that. Having used it though Im not sure I would use it again.
