I'm particularly fond of that picture of him as a private. There's only one other picture I've seen of him armed, and this one makes two!

I really enjoyed that.

Frances Ann Forrest, who died far too early, certainly had her father's glare!

Of all the Forrest family, the two surviving images of little Fannie have always been my favrorites.

His and Mary Ann's children were so attractive. Surprised there are no images of Mary Ann in this collection.

Great images of Forrest as he matured through the years.

The side view one is remarkable to me. Forrest didn't like his hands seen - had what we'd probably call 'artist hands' - long fingers and slim. But he's got them folded together in his lap and the right one has one heck of a scar across it. Maybe it happened at Selma when he had a gun knocked out of his hand with a saber, or maybe it was the 'cut' on his hand from the fight with Edwards after the war. I can see why he had difficulty writing, though - that looks like it never properly healed. It's a wonderful collection, though!

That must be the other photo of Frances you were talking about, as I wondered when you said it. She looks a little less serious in this one whereas Willie looks the opposite. She looks older in this one, too. How tragic that she died so young. I'd say she would have been a beauty beyond compare had she lived to an older age.
