You may ask what is Fluffernutter. It is a very yummy sandwich made with bread, peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. It has become an American classic. This treat is enjoyed in school cafeterias, college dorms and local diners.

Marshmallow candy can be traced to ancient Egypt. People began to harvest the marshmallow plat, Althaea officinalis. In the 19th century a French pharmacist extracted the juice from the marshmallow plants and heated it with egg whites and sugar and created a marshmallow cream.

In 1917, Archibald Query of Somerville, Massachusetts created a special formula for the marshmallow fluff we know today. The city of Somerville celebrates with "What is Fluff" festival every year.

So for today have a Fluffernutter Sandwich!

An American classic? If you hadn't provided all that historical detail I would have thought you were pulling my leg. :bounce:
I should add that this will go over very well as a trivia question for me to use. It is sort of self explanatory though ... fluffy and nutty. Love it!

I can't remember the last time I had Fluff. I will say its quite tasty on chocolate chip cookies and even oatmeal ones when you want that super sugary rush of sweetness. As for the Fluffernutter sandwich, I've never had one as I was never a big fan of peanut butter sandwiches. I was the boring kid with a plain jelly sandwich.

Does sound like something you'd name your cat, doesn't it! I've never had this but I do have a jar of marshmallow fluff in the pantry - today's the day!

By the way, marshmallow root tea is very good for lung problems. When we'd get a chest cold Mom would have us drink that and it did help. (Just don't expect it to taste like marshmallows!)

Besides fluffernutter it is also National Pierogi Day and Touch Tag Day, so go out there and organize and Touch Tag game with fluffernutter pierogi snacks. Yum!

Told my 3 year old it was Fluffernutter day. His response was, "Nutter's! For ice cream!"

Close. So close.
