I have been asked by a friend if I can identify this picture. She purchased it at an antique sale, and says she has since seen it at other sales. Any Ideas?

That is Major John Biddle (1792-1859), portrayed by Thomas Sully in 1818. Apparently also a U.S. congressman and mayor of Detroit.

Edit- Ah, now I see, sounds like a copy of a famous painting of him. Very nice picture btw.
