Grant Not impressed with Grants performance

Davis could have played it safe and folded at the first sign of US aggression, but that would have betrayed the Southern yearning for a nation of their own. At least the upside of not showing the white feather was that at the end of it all there were over 360,000 fewer Yankees to plague the continent.
To whom it may concern:
I wish no longer to associate with a site and with someone who can say 360,000 dead is a good thing.

To be fair @Jimklag , and in NO way am I defending CSA's post, I have seen those w/ the polar opposite view express declarations that ALL the Traitors should have been hanged which is equally extreme. I rarely question their sincerity, but I have come to believe that about 75% of the time CSA is stirring the pot and not to be always taken seriously. I have come to 'enjoy" jabbing back when the opening presents itself.

And I certainly would not wish to see a member leave at a moment of anger.

Thank you for your post @O' Be Joyful. I'm not angry - I'm embarrassed. That is not a subject to joke about.

Nor would I. I regret letting my anger get the best of me. A better reply would have been that it is regrettable that anyone, on either side dies in wars – then, now or in the future.
I apologize for causing undue distress to any member.

I understand. When I first joined some of the more extreme comments I saw here made me shake my head in shock and amazement. Joke was probably too extreme a word, for me to imply. I do not question the depth and sincerity of CSA's (and others in THAT camp) beliefs. They feel that their positions and opinions are relentlessly under attack, and yep that is sure enough a fact, in my view rightfully so, within limits. But, IMO without those opposing voices this site would lose something. It would be quite boring here if everyone agreed and there was no one to challenge us to think things through.

You are still new, greater shocks await, and speaking of embarrassment when I was a newbie I challenged @cash about "contrabands" at Gettysburg w/ @Drew egging me on, Oh boy.

No worries. I'm not normally that sensitive. Wrong subject - wrong tone. It just hit a little tender spot.

Remind me of this statement when I'm told to respect the service and sacrifice of the Confederate soldier.

Why one would like this strikes me as sick.
Make no mistake, he wishes more US soldiers would have died. Maybe he slipped in voicing his views out loud but I doubt it.
He is not alone in his views as can be seen by those who like such posts.

To all of us on both sides of the issue and getting back to the guy who was the original subject of this thread, Grant expressed respect for all the men who fought for their 'cause' no matter his opinion of the justification of their cause. We should do likewise.

It is at moments such as these that I truly learn to appreciate this site: I go to the biographies, browse the photographs, and peruse the recipes. There is so much more to these forums than oft ridiculous positing.

When Grant crossed the Rapidan his objective was Richmond, the ? was that the correct objective because what was really the CSA- the capital city or the army. I would submit that on this point his[Grant] objective was wrong it should have been from the start destruction of the ANV. Lee abandoning any pretense of defending Richmond in May and redeploying his army southwest of Richmond near Danville would have unhinged Grant's plan of action.
I await the slings an arrows.

Grant was focused on ANV. He told Meade that his only objective eas Lee's army.
