The Civil War: A Narrative

Some years ago Time Life put out a series of books by Shelby Foote, all titled The Civil War: A Narrative. I don't know how many books were in the series, but they appear to be maybe 250 to 300 pages each, and have sub-titles like Secession to Fort Henry, evidently each book dealing with a specific period of the war.

Does anyone know if these are the same as the three volume set of books of the same name by Shelby Foote, and if not, is it likely that the Time Life books would still be available somewhere?

Beats me. Sounds like a serialization of Foote's three-volumes, but I've never heard of a Time-Life set based on the work.

The text is the same. Time/Life simply repackaged and added pictures.

I sort of thought that might be the case since the titles were the same. Hamilton had a few of them listed on their site a while back, but from the numbers on each book they had, like #4, #9, #12...whatever, it was clear they didn't have a full set of whatever they were, so I didn't order any of them, but always wondered if they may have been different from the originals.

I almost picked up a set at Half Price Books today (I had a coupon). The complete set is eight books. I finally decided it wasn't worth spending the cash to get a prettier set since the one I have is servicable and I figure, with all the other books I have, I probably have all the pictures anyway.

Besides, I am running out of space on my bookshelves (okay, I actually ran out awhile ago, but its just getting worse).

You too? I think that's the down side of being a bookworm. The last shipment of books I got had to be stacked on a shelf in the linen closet, and I have another shipment in transit. I have a lot of novels, mostly unread, almost all of them "used" when I bought them since fiction doesn't interest me much, but I can never bring myself to part with a book, whether I ever read it or not.
