GRAPHIC Two Photographs connected???

In April 1865 Thomas Roche took photograhs of dead CS Soldiers at Petersburg Virginia
One picture from the Roche series is the only one to be definitely identified as to the place where it was taken.It was taken behind a union picket post in front of Fort Sedgwick and shows the body of a confederate POWWho was killed by confederate Friendly fire on the Jerusalem Plank Road as he was being taken from the

Another picture from the same series ....the Petersburg Project thinks it was taken CS Battery 25...However there are
4 slight clues...One is a depression in ground behind the dead man which is similar to a depression in fron of the dead man in the foreground...second is the hat in the foreground..which resembles the hat just to the right of the dead man in the first picture ..thirdly is this mans wounds..caused by artillery burst..lastly is the fact that wooden barracade behind the dead man resembles the barracde of the picket post in the first picture.... coud they have been taken same place from different angles?

If the body was moved by the photographer, maybe they are the same.
Otherwise the pile of rocks and hut from the first photo are missing in the second.

There were two other pictures taken on the dead manin 2nd picture
one shows a artillery rammer

The third picture was taken from the other side of the dead man pointing down toward his feet to his right....not to his left!

The man in the first image is wearing a satchel over his shoulder that the man in the second photo is missing. The man in the first image has blood all over his face that is missing from the man in the second photo. The guy in the second image looks like he could be wearing an overcoat with a cape over a uniform jacket that the guy in the first photo is not wearing.

No question as to these being separate casualties. The man with the facial wound is wearing a captured Federal cartridge box. The other is not. These were originally published as stereoviews.

The so called artilleryman is wearing the cartridge box.....but you can only see it with the picture showing a real body in front and a "fake" union corpse in the background

among those pictures of thse series..is the body of a young CS soldier...

This view was taken in the trenches of the rebel Fort Mahone, called by the soldiers "Fort Damnation," the morning after the storming of Petersburgh (i.e. Petersburg), Va., April 2d, 1865 [...]

Internestingly enough..a group of English tourists visted Petersburgh which was printed in a 1865 book Transatlantic Skeaths of which No 20 is the body of the unknown cs casuality; no 21 shows a CS fort at Petersburgh with the bodies of 2 CS Soldiers and number 22 is a very good sketch of a wooden Church built by New Soldier Engineers...
