Between September 18 and 20, 1864, 1800 POWs were sent from Andersonville to Rough and Ready near Atlanta for exchange. Only about 700 were exchanged leaving 1100 to be loaded back on trains. According to the Andersonville recapitulation records, the prisoners were not returned there. Somewhere in the all of the documents I have read, one of the POWs recorded spending the night in Macon and noting that the train was heading to Savannah. Since reading that diary notation, I have moved from Georgia to British Columbia. I cannot find my notes on the author. I'm hoping that someone in this group might have also seen the diary and can provide me with a name. Thank you.
