Railroad Nation: The Art of Selling a Nation, 1825-1925

I came across this book yesterday when I was doing extensive shelving and weeding in the lobby. It's apparently popular because it came out in June and this is the first time I've seen it. It deals with railroad ephemera/advertising and how it attracted people to buy farms and settle along railroads as well as attract visitors to what became national parks out West. I think some here might enjoy it.

I love railroads. I will order it when I return from the Muster. I joined the IL Railroad Museum in Union. I love to ride the trains and walk the barns.

If you have a particular interest in the Chicago & North Western (began life as the Galena and Chicago Union), their archives are in a new building at the Illinois Railroad Museum. I believe everything has been moved out of Omaha (but not necessarily out of storage). I guess the Union Pacific needed the space. :D
