New interpretative center.

Over stated
I don't know that it can be overstated. I was looking at newspaper reports, most of which pointed out that the untrained black troops fought as well as the veteran white regiment that was posted with them. Not only did it make national headlines, it made international headlines!

It meant that the fall of Vicksburg would yield access to new recruiting grounds with 200,000 - 300,000 men of military age, all of whom would "fight like tigers" as some reporters said.

Charles Dana thought it was remarkable enough to message the president directly.

A fairly common psychological attempt at building up morale.

NPS is more anti-Confederate than anything. The last time that I went to the Olustee Battlefield, NPS had removed the markers that had been there for many years that marked the positions of the CSA units. Only the markers for Union positions remained. It's like the NPS is erasing part of history.
Oops! I was corrected by a CWT member, and found that the Olustee Battlefield is not controlled by NPS, but by the State of Florida. That makes the missing Confederate position markers a puzzle, and perhaps they were in the process of replacing them. I won't know until someone I know visits the battlefield, as I have moved away and will not likely be able to visit there again at my age/in my condition.

Normal Americans who love history and our culture.

Museum exhibits should be educational, not celebratory.

"Normal Americans who love history and culture" mostly do so superficially. They aren't qualified to interpret history or to educate others about it because they only engage with it superficially. They aren't trying to learn; they just want to feel good and see pretty things.
