I'm researching the clothing of one of the vivandieres of the 1st Louisiana Zouave Battalion. I analyzed the details of the well-known photograph, taken in 1861 in Pensacola. The quality, unfortunately, does not allow us to see some details.
Equipment: You can clearly see the small barrel, the sword and perhaps the handle of a knife tucked into her belt, the latter is not visible, but was probably worn, given that she has to hold the sword.
The lower part of the uniform is clear: shoes, gaiters and Jambieres. The zouave trousers are covered by the skirt. Finally there is the apron, of which I don't understand what color it might be.
The hat presents no difficulties, black with a light feather and a cord at the base.
The upper part of the uniform is the biggest problem: To me it looks like a short open jacket with two rows of buttons one on each side and a row of buttons on each sleeve. Below the jacket, you can see what appears to be a white collar and probably a shirt or other dark garment.
If you have suggestions or changes to my conclusions, you are welcome and I thank you in advance.
