In 2019, a group I belong to got private access on a Friday night to the then Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth. Someone from our group asked the museum owner about Texas artifacts. He said there's generally not much in the way of Texas artifacts available in the market.
Appreciate your input! So far I've seen 4 or 5 stars with Texas provenance sell online. There was one on Mr. Larry Hicklen's site for $175 (8th TX cav, still kicking myself for missing it), one on Mr. Tom Hays' site for $275, one on Mr. Peirut's site for $500, and a couple more on the Union Drummer Boy site. I'm holding out hope that another star shows up in the price range of the first two stars I mentioned, but you are probably right, I might have to adjust my stated budget if I want any chance at scoring one.
The pickings are definitely slim! I could settle with a saddle ornament or bridle rosette, but I'm hoping a hat star will come around, however unlikely it is
Yes sir, they were in fact offered as such! The one offered by Mr. Hicklen for $175 specifically was dug by him personally in an 8th TX Cavalry camp. They all featured handcut construction which is in line with originals.
