Aunt Caroline's Dixieland Recipes By Emma McKinney, William McKinney

Those sound good! Davis' favorite pie is rumored to have been chess pie. N B Forrest liked molasses pie. Somewhere there is Mrs. Forrest's Molasses Pie recipe - if you come across it, please post it. I've been looking for it for years. Forrest claimed there was something 'different' that she put into it that made it stand out special! (That's Ma Forrest, not the missus!) :D

I have noticed you posted this in 2011.

Civil War Period Cookery is full of recipes enjoyed by people who lived and loved and prayed during the tragic period of the War Between the States. It includes the favorite dishes of men and women on both sides of the conflict. Included are recipes for such delectables as Brown Sugar Cookies favored by General Ulysses S. Grant; a Pork and Parsnip Stew enjoyed by Medal of Honor winner, Mary Edwards Walker; a rich Molasses Pie from the family of Nathan Bedford Forrest, and that special Giblet-Cornmeal Turkey Stuffing as it was served to the family of Abner Doubleday. Each recipe is followed by an enlightening biographical sketch.
