I've no objection to reenactors being clean. They shouldn't wear modern aftershave though (there were hair perfumes, but I've never read of a soldier using it). The advantage of clean is no lice. Remember what they said about the army? You can smell them before yo see them. Unwashed bodies stink and can have vermin. If you want a sample, go to where the homeless are. 
I had a dog (from the shelter) and she would never approach a homeless camp. That told me that at some point her previous owner was homeless (which made sense as to why he abandoned her and her brother).

Darn it, this field is just as dry as the one that caught fire as we crossed it during last week's attack! The Yankee skirmishers will probably set it on fire as they fall back.
