Ironclad Daniel B. Martin's Boiler Designs

Attached are slides from my research into the vertical water-tube boilers and general design of the USICS Sangamon and the John Ericsson Passaic Class Ironclad Monitors. The slides also have the layout of the horizontal fire-tube boilers of the USICS Monitor, and the Canonicus/ Tippecanoe Class Ironclads, vessels of Captain Ericsson's design. Daniel B. Martin designed the boilers for the USICS Monitor and for the Passaic class ironclads. Remarkable to me is that the design for Martin's early water-tube boiler is so simular to the later fire-tube boiler used in the Canonicus monitors credited to Alban Stimers.
