CSA Army structure?

whenever possilble did soldiers of one state would be commanded by officers of their own states? Virginias by Virginas?

There was an attempt to have brigades and divisions comprised of soldiers from single states, officered by men from those states. Army of Northern Virginia got pretty far on the brigade level and not so far on the divisional level.

Jefferson Davis made a push to have brigades organized by states. In the ANV it was fairly successful. Ideally the brigade commander would be from the same state, but often if Lee felt like a brigades leadership was poor, or if it was one of the rare mixed state brigades, he would put a west pointer from another state in command.
