Capped bust

Today I was having a slow day of detecting in northern Mississippi then I found something awesome. I was looking for a Yankee camp near a plantation site and I had only found an eagle button and some other common items. I had been hunting for hours and I was about to head home but I had an ok signal and dug it and it was an 1830 capped bust half dime. Sadly it is holed but the detail is good. It's the first capped bust I've ever dug

I've always loved the eagles on this period coin. I've got the half dollar version but I had to buy it😞 wish I could metal detect. Excellent find!!!! I think the hole adds to the character of it because that was a period correct thing they did.

I almost didn't dig it. It was really deep(8 inches) and sounded like a shotgun shell or a 22 shell casing. I would have never guessed it was a capped bust

Nice Find. Why would you not dig a discriminating signal. Plus 8 inches is NOT deep:nah disagree:

Everything I had dug that was civil war at the site was 2-4 inches deep for that specific site I consider 8 inches to be deep. I had dug a lot of garbage that sounded similar. There was also a couple square nails in the hole that made it sound bad and I thought the signal might be big iron but I was wrong.
