June is the month for weddings. So thought an idea for a Bridal Shower would be the Bridal Shower Tea Party. When planning for a wedding it can be so hectic. A tea shower would be calming and fun. It would be an hour or two of sweet calm for the bride.

The gift theme would be items to outfit the bride for her own tea parties. Gifts could include: sugar tongs, Victorian style strainers, tea balls in several sizes, unusual teas, dainty napkins, teapots, both plain and fancy, and of course cup and saucer sets. Each guest could have fun going to secondhand or antique shops to pick out these items. The bride would have an instant collection of the necessities for a tea party.

The menu should include a pretty cake with fresh cut flowers around the cake plate. These could be edible flowers which include: nasturtiums, pansies, calendulas, roses, carnations, and herbs such as chives, lavender, borage and bergamot.

Of course you need an assortment of tea sandwiches to include Chicken Tarragon, Ham and Apricot, Cucumber and Watercress.

We need other assorted desserts or sweets beside the cake. One of the favorites is Maids of Honor. These are almond tarts which date back to the court of Henry VIII and are named for the queen's ladies in waiting. They would be served in honor of the bride's attendants.

You need both iced and hot teas in different flavors for all to enjoy. They would be served from fancy teapots or pitcher (iced tea) and served in an assortment of cups and sauces and pretty tea glasses for the iced tea.

For the bride one needs to make a Tussy-Mussy This is a pretty nosegay that has one flat side so it will lie on the table or on the bride's plate as a place marker. Cut your flowers and herbs in the morning and after making the tussy-mussy mist with water and store in refrigerate in plastic bag until the tea shower.

Also make a bouquet of rosemary for each guest and place it at place for them with a placecard, with the guest's name and the message "Here's rosemary for remembrance!".

This shower would be a special one for the bride to remember always.

I knew when wrote about Bridal Teas, being a Lady's thing, I probably was "Politically Incorrect".

However, I guess I am from the old school and see nothing wrong with some things being for ladies and some things being for men. I guess you could say I am Victorian at heart.

Oh, don't worry! Men aren't keen about bridal parties and baby showers anyway! Though a lot of times men do pop up at the end of both these days to help bring the gifts home for the bride/expectant mother. But they typically aren't around during the main part of the party itself. I'm with you it's traditionally a female event.

For LoriAnn:

Recipe for Maids of Honor

Ingredients:

egg yolks
sugar
ground almonds
lemon zest
flour
cream
pie pastry

Butter the insides of muffin tins and sprinkle with flour. Roll out your favorite piecrust and cut circles about 1 inch wide for muffin cups. It should go partway up sides.

Beat together 2 egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar. 1/2 cup ground almonds, 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest, and 1 tablespoon flour. Slowly add 2 tablespoons cream and beat until smooth. Add 1 tablespoon filling to each pastry cup. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

Recipe from: "Country Tea Parties" by Maggie Stuckey. I reworded it so could post it.

Have to show this recipe to the wife as she makes scones often and she loves Bleu cheese.

Love scones and I thought it was an interesting combo! I think the sweet of the peaches and the savoriness of the blue cheese will compliment each other!
You are right as to it being an interesting combo.I am really curious as to how these will taste.you can never tell how something will work.for example balsamic vinegar andstrawberries.we have two different vinegars that we use on them.one is Dark Chocolate Balsamic and the other is Blueberry Balsamic Vinegar. They are also great on Vanilla Ice Cream.
