Great Photos. Thanks for taking us along.

Fantastic photos! You really have a great "eye!" You obviously know how to visit a State too!!! Wow...you really went to some interesting spots.

I was shocked, and pleasantly surprised by your Manassas photographs. Your Henry House and Chinn Ridge images in particular. I grew up in Washington DC, I have dear friends that live in Springfield, VA and my sister lives in Falls Church, VA and I have never visited Manassas! And my ancestor, John Stuckey, of the 2nd VA Infantry was KIA at 2nd Manassas! I can not believe I haven't been there. Your images are wonderful. I Imagined the entire site to be hemmed in by townhouses and strip malls. Your pictures show me that there is some beauty remaining of those very hallowed grounds. I will certainly have to go now.

Your Cove Mountain Gap photograph is beautiful. Your Trevilian Station image is great as well. That is another place, Like Haw's Shop, that my ancestors fought at but I have never visited. I like the rustic look of your picture; as if it was taken the day of the battle!

All wonderful photographs! And I know you enjoyed yourselves!!!

Thanks for posting them!

Like others have said, terrific photos! being a Grumble Jones fan, never knew of his monument, really stunning! Autum leaves are such a joy but those back east are the best! How has netherland taven lasted so long, and looking so rustic and all.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I was really looking forward to this trip and tour for multiple reasons, not the least of which knowing that being the early part of November, the fall colors would be spectacular and wanted to take full advantage of it. It is usually just a matter of being at the right place at the right time of day. The tour took me many places I had never been to but had heard of and Scott Patchan (and Burford Smith) did an excellent job as always. As for the Netherland Tavern, I understand it is neither a wartime structure or the wartime location of the tavern at that time, but as gc45 said the rustic look was too much for me to pass up. The Manassas visit was really just to kill some time that morning but once I saw the colors, I stayed longer than originally planned. Some of the sites I had been to before, but like many other CW sites, I see something new every time I go and the visits to New Market and Piedmont were no exception and I am already looking forward to future visits. Again thanks for all the kind comments and "likes".

Thanks for updates on the taven; just looks like it belongs somewhere in this timeline of history and such a supurb photo!
