These are funny:

Staunton's regiment was not sharpshooters. Evidently, they used it to trick recruits into joining a vaunted "sharpshooter" unit.

The 6th NYSM did not, in fact, reorganize for the war. In fact, the next time it was called out was not until two years later. It may be that the regiment, being militia, was seeking to replenish its ranks to replace the many men who went and joined other volunteer units instead.
