Bentonville?

Cowpens and Kings Mountain! Two great AR sites to visit. I live an hour away from Kings Mountain and visit as often as possible.
I have an ancestor who was supposed to have fought at Kings Mountain. His bio says he was in the cavalry but I can't find any mention of cavalry used in that battle. Maybe they were there to protect the flanks and didn't get into the fight.
Do you have some info on the "rebel" units that fought there?

Pix from Bentonville my men of the 13th NJ were part of the first days action which tore apart the Rebel troops of Elliotts Brigade as the fired on then with enfilade shots.
Thanks for posting the photos. I don't know much about Bentonville.
I am interested in two Confederate brigades: Featherston's Brigade and Walthall's Brigade. Featherston's brigade was part of Loring's Division. I lost track of Walthall's Brigade after he fought the rear-guard action out of Nashville. Here at Bentonville, Walthall lead a division. The map in your photo of a makers shows both.

The balance of the men is scattered over the States of NC & SC, Ga, Ala, & Ms, living at free quarters on the people. It is a most sad & humiliating picture. Officers seem paralyzed, men indifferent to everything but plunder, & the people, as they well may, appear disgusted & dismayed. This state of things cannot last, & no one is so blind as not to see the inevitable result. A few days since, on the field, I passed poor Walthall, noble soldier, & inquired for his command. He pointed me to a small squad & said: My Div now numbers 2 Brig Gen'ls & 63 men for duty. His is a sample of the whole, & nothing better may be expected as long as every household is invaded, every private right violated, without the hope of redress…

Thanks. Walthall's Brigade was comprised of different units by this last battle.

Regarding Featherston's brigade, the 22nd Mississippi Regiment was still part of his brigade. Colonel H. J. Reid, who was originally the Captain commanding Company "G", wrote a paper that accounted for every soldier who entered and departed this company, aka "Black Hawk Rifles". Here is an excerpt from his report that lists those present after their surrender.

At the surrender 26th of April 1865 at Greensboro, N. C., a company roll was made showing those present for duty, and accounting for all who were not there. I have a copy of that roll, but I know it is not exactly accurate as it does not mention several I know belonged to the company, towit: H. J. Barrentine$, H. W. Cooley, M. A. Duffy, John Gilbert, "Buck" Kittrell, and Wm. Blair. I have added those names to it. . . . S. Speir is reported as having died from wound received, but I can not say at what battle he received it, possibly may have been Franklin.

I gave the roll showing the status of those then living that belonged to the company as made out by the company officers on the 26th of April, '65, and I follow it with the names of those who had been promoted out of the company, resigned, killed, died, discharged, dropped, and were not on the roll as members of the company so as to account for all who ever belonged to Co. "G".
