[Cornpone and Molasses]

Interesting ambrotype that I picked up on a recent trip to Gettysburg. She seems to have a 1000 yard stare looking at the camera.

She could be in mourning given her black clothing, although her dress is covered in dots. If she's not in mourning it could be that, "He ran off to play soldier and left me to raise our daughter by myself" look.

A vacant or all-knowing stare cross a very thin line. This says both to me...and kinda makes the hair stand on my neck. Great image!

That was my first thought when I saw it. Appears that her daughter is in dark clothing as well.

Thanks. I had the same exact feeling. I collect ACW relics but this is the first image that I have ever purchased.
