Interesting ambrotype that I picked up on a recent trip to Gettysburg. She seems to have a 1000 yard stare looking at the camera.

She could be in mourning given her black clothing, although her dress is covered in dots. If she's not in mourning it could be that, "He ran off to play soldier and left me to raise our daughter by myself" look.
That was my first thought when I saw it. Appears that her daughter is in dark clothing as well.
