I think the Sgt might be Wm J Sperry? If so, that would mean the image was prior to 8/21/62?

This photo was taken over the winter of 1861/62. You can see most of the men wearing gloves of some sort and what appears to be snow on the ground in the background.

I'd just add that if it was taken at Camp Griffin, it would have to have been taken before April 1862, which is when the regiment headed to the Peninsula. From the larger scale photo and judging from the trees in the background, it looks like it may have been late Fall/early Winter 1861 - pure speculation.
