This is a 6lb solid shot fired by Lathams Battery on July 2, 1863 while probably engaged with Smiths 4th NY Independent Battery stationed at Devils Den.
This comes from Wes Small of the Horse Soldiers personal collection. Was found by Al Flickinger in the Triangular Field, below Devils Den back in the 1960s. I purchased this from 2ndDEBoys Gettysburg collection, and he purchased it from Ethan S., both members of this forum. I have letters attesting to the story of original purchase and ownership that will be included with the shot. Here's a link to a write up done about it:
Lathams Battery, of North Carolinas Branch Artillery had a unique feature in the battle of Gettyburg. They had the only six pounder gun on both sides during the entire battle. The battery consisted of three Napoleons, one 12 Pounder Howitzer and one 6 Pounder Bronze Gun. According to the plaque on South Confederate Avenue;
"July 2 Took position here 4 p.m. and was actively engaged until night. The Howitzer and the Bronze gun were disabled and two captured 10 pounder Parrotts substituted.
July 3 Engaged in firing upon the Union lines within range. About 5 p.m. aided...
The Horse soldier just sold a fused Lathams Battery shot from the same area for $1295. I purchased this one for $850, and that what I will sell it for. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
