Excluding Lincoln...

Barack Obama. He's doing fine. Wish the GOP weren't quite so intransigent. Nothing in our history of economic recoveries suggests their economic ideas will work. Not sure yet about the Obama policies but, when comparing the past 4 years to other periods of our history (1830s - 40, 1930s), I think he has done very well.

Both parties are partisan as all hell these days. Both. If you only see that coming from the Republicans then I would argue you are not looking real close. This is partly why I proposed in this thread suggesting a former president who could work tru this partisan log jam and get down to solving problems. There are two major parties. Both have to come to agreements for things to work. It's the art of compromise and it takes, just as in love, two to tango.

Ya'll will notice that you've cited presidents who tried to do what was best. Some did good stuff, and some tried, but it remains that "they" were concerned about what was best for the country. We seem to have lost that somewhere in the shuffle.

My God. If this is fine I'd hate to see what you consider poor.

Yeah really just think how much better off we would be had Obama followed Jimma Carter instead of that ineffective, unaccomplished, mediocre, Ronald Reagan. We just need to print more money and spend it faster especially in green energy programs designed and initiated by Obama's bundlers and big money supporters. I mean if we just keep doing the same thing Obama has in the last three and a half years we will can HOPE to see the CHANGE we need. We should also concentrate on walking more guns to the Mexican drug cartels while at the same time making sure our border patrol is equiped with the very best bean bag guns and tactical slingshots China can produce. Tax, Borrow, Print, and SPEND, SPEND, SPEND thats the ticket Obama should run on................stay the course!

Either George Washington or Thomas Jefferson, either president would have laughed to scorn those who argue against unilateral secession, those who say self-determination is a right only if you seek permission.

"If we were wrong in our contest, then the Declaration of Independence of 1776 was a grave mistake and the revolution to which it led was a crime. If Washington was a patriot; Lee cannot have been a rebel."

Wade Hampton

Well, at least we know he inhaled!

But isn't that what this country needs – a forthright candidate? God help any civilized country when the only choice is one between Barack Obama and George Romney.

"Abortion, sodomy, and Por**grphy now all Constitutional rights. However, praying in public school is outlawed, based on that same Constitution."

Praying in public school is not illegal at all. The state.... teacher, principal, school, whatever, just cannot lead you in prayer and that makes sense to me cause who gets to decide what kinda prayer it's gonna be, what faith, what denomination etc. If you are a Christian and your kid attends a school with an Islamic principal do you want your kid praying to Allah cause that is the prayer the principal desires? You can pray all the hell you want. No law against personal prayer. Often just before I pass out a test I sometimes say, "Those of you of faith may wanna do some serious praying now." Hah. I do it partly for kicks. To be fair I am not teaching in public school (community college) and in today's culture I just might not say that cause ya never know when some nut is going to get their back up and come after you for an innocent joke. I could not teach in public schools today. My big mouth would get me in trouble as any who have read my posts would no doubt agree. I admire those who do cause they walking on PC pins and needles all the time and gotta be careful.

While I am on the topic of public ed I wanna say that those who have the tuffest job in education today and the most important job are elementary school teachers....and they get the least notice and credit. That is where it all begins. Heck all I do is walk in and run my mouth about what I have been reading about since I was six...history, and when I run outta gas I done and class dismissed. Students are 18 and over and paying for college ed and there are zero discipline problems. Simple. Dont buy into the idea that somehow college profs have the most intellectually demanding job and are smarter or any of that ****. IMO it is the easiest gig in the educational arena. I salute public school teachers. Like I said....no way could I do it. I got off topic with this but what the heck.

You are so dead on. It seems sometimes the two parties aren't even listening to each other, just trying to see who can drown out the other guy. Kinda reminds me of the 1850s.
