Just got hammered by a Karen

Here is another grandmother story about chicken. My grandparents, before WWII, had the largest poultry farm in NH. In fact, NH used to be one of the, if not the largest, poultry producer in the US. Anyway, my family was/is very social with lots of Sunday visiting. However, my grandmother was getting really tired of hearing a certain set of her relatives talk about how they would *never* eat game and putting people down who ate game, especially because they also worked in the mills.

My father and his brothers were big hunters and also caught woodchucks and my grandmother was a dab hand at woodchuck stew. So one Sunday she made "Chicken and Dumplings." Her relatives raved about how good the chicken was and how they don't eat game. Grammy just sat back and smiled. They had eaten woodchuck and dumplings for their Sunday dinner and never realized it!
Lying is actually a great way of introducing new foods. I once got somebody to eat rattler (which is excellent, by the way) by telling them that it was "quail". Of course, after they got seconds and finished, I told them what it was. There was a sudden temperature inversion in the room ...

Never tried rattler. They weren't too common in northern Ontario where I grew up. I would have no objection to trying it at least once. Game was a staple of my youth. Deer, moose, beaver and rabbit all made appearances at the dinner table.

I've eaten several different kinds found in the mountain west and it's not bad at all (you know, tastes like chicken :D). Some kinds are a lot bigger than others so you get more meat.

I lost a girl friend by switching veal in and then telling her. Caveat emptor

I tried rattle snake once (in Texas).
It was good, but there was a lot of work involved to get a little slither of meat off the small ribs.

For that much effort, give me a crawfish boil. :D

My grandmother used to tell tales about hating when the preacher came to Sunday dinner. He took all the best pieces of the fried chicken!
I guess I'm naive, but I find that so shocking. That's not living up to the morals one purports to embody. I used to live in an ashram, and all of us followed a strict code when it came to food. You never take the best nor the very last of something, unless the person before you left one of an item only. Only then can you eat it. It's not making a good impression on your congregants to be a pig.

Well, not to further distract from the original post, I couldn't resist this very truthful account of the last piece of fried chicken down here:

As we know, it doesn't. My friend decided it didn't taste like quail, either. I didn't figure her for reacting THAT much. :D:D The cook at the ranch I worked at one summer did a great job of cooking it up. And you're right about size. He did up one I took that was close to 5 feet. Good amount of meat on that one.

I can remember being at the Mexican restaurant with three kids and one serving of fried ice cream. They didn't wait for the lights to go out nor did they respect their elders. It was forks out and everyone for him or her self. More than one of us got tined; either accidentally or on purpose.

Isn't Nancy Boys some sort of heroes from some novels? More modernly it is applied to effiminate males and hence the Drill Sergeant's ungentle guidance of them into soldier/marines.

Mo' beddah than eye! (Much better than me).
To my knowledge it was for men who were Gay. I may be mistaken though.

Why "Karen" how about "Nancy" when Drill Sergeants called us "Nancy Boys". What does that even mean? Why using a name could we just stick with Numnuts, Bonehead, Moron, Jerk, Knucklehead, Fool, Jerkoff, Retart, Peck**head, Di**head, Grump, Loser, Bimbo, Brain Dead, Clueless, Crybaby, If you had a Brain you'd be dangerous, Curdog, Cur, Dimwit, Crouton, Basketcase, Mental, Headcase, Psycho, Misfit, Ill Bred, Rat, Fink, Lying Cuss, Whiner, Spoiled Brat, Emotionally Crippled, etc. What I leave out?

"PFC Sh*tforbrains" is one a Marine friend of mine has heard.

I just had an interaction with a FindAGrave member that put me a bit on tilt and just feel the need to post what happened but also to see if anybody else has had this kind of experience.

I'll try to be short. I decided to try and fill the photo requests at a cemetery that's close by. As I always do, I check the cemetery records before I go out as many don't have a plot location and some get other stuff wrong. So, one request was for a man with the last name of Carley. I looked and there was no record for such a person. But, the request did have a plot number so while out I went to the plot and there was no marker. Thus, I marked the request as a problem saying the cemetery didn't have the person in the records and there was no marker in the noted plot (both of which are in the list of accepted problem types).

Well .... about an hour ago I got a message from the member who requested the photos saying "I've got a lot number so of course he's in the cemetery and it's incredibly disingenuous of you to say he isn't." I then went back to the records and looked at all the ones starting with CAR and found the man way down the list with the last name spelled Carly. So, I wrote back and was nice and explained that there is, in fact, no record for a Carley and there's no marker. And I noted that I didn't care to be called disingenuous; just trying to help. A few minutes ago I got a response saying her guy was in the records and I was disingenuous for "making things up." While I was giving that some thought I looked at her profile and it's a very long list of rules she has and when she will not accept this or that and how she'll sue if you use her photos and on and on.

Thus, I could only think of one term for her and that was Karen. I'm not going to respond but in my fourteen years doing FindAGrave I've never had someone attack me like this. Have any of you experienced something similar ?

Thanks for at least reading my rant. The wife's out of town and the dog thinks she did something wrong if I rant so I kind of needed an unload. Maybe a little bitty glass of Pinot Gris.
Recently, after almost 18 years, I decided to leave Find-A-Grave due to a really miserable Karen who went under the name of "Graves R Us". During all of those years, I had never heard one single peep from Find-A-Grave (or later, Ancestry.com) about me having the website address for my website (4thmichigan.wordpress.com) in the bios of the hundreds of memorials that I had created, and / or managed. The reference was there as a courtesy for those family members and historical researchers (both amateur and professional) who were interested in learning more about the Fourth Michigan Infantry and the men that served under her banner during the Civil War. The site is, and always will be, a non-profit historical source of information. So, I felt that because of that, sharing it on Find-A-Grave would be simply taken at face value, as a non-profit source of additional information.

Well, about October of last year, Graves R Us decided that she really needed to serve as the policy police for Ancestry / Find-A-Grave and point out that there was in fact a policy that forbid the use of links or URLs of any outside websites, and that I needed to go through all of my 1700+ memorials and delete any reference to my site as well as sources used for any information on them. I then pointed out to "Karen" that:
a: That prior to her entering my peaceful life, that there had never had a problem with the staff regarding the issue.
b: For someone who had been with Find-A-Grave for over five years at that time, and still had no memorials under her management, therefore contributed very little to the community, who exactly was she to think that she ran the roost?

c: I also asked her to tell me what infraction I was guilty of if people had to "Copy & Paste" the web address of my website into their browser to get there? In other words, it was not a direct link from Find-A-Grave, and therefore it wouldn't have been a virus threat for anyone using it since they actually had to leave Find-A-Grave to get to my site.

It goes without saying that Karen continued to stalk me through the following several months, continually pointing out "my policy violation" another dozen or more times about various other memorials. Eventually, I began responding to her memorial suggestions with "The memorial is just fine as it is". And at one point, I even warned her about reporting her continual harassment. Miss Miserable evidently couldn't sleep at night unless she got her way, so she complained to the staff of Find-A-Grave. That's when they, shortly afterwards, fired off a couple of warning emails to me concerning my violation of their policy and telling me to remove them and to play nicely with the other kids......or else be locked out of all of the memorials that I had managed, and quite often created. No appreciation or recognition for several thousands of hours of research, my visiting over 400 cemeteries throughout the U.S. while looking for the grave locations for those men whose memorials were represented. On several of my memorials, I had posted photographs of the military headstones that I had obtained through the Veteran's Administration, and had often personally set, for those men. Please don't misunderstand me, as I am certainly not boasting of my works here. I was always just doing "the right thing" for those men and never had an ego to feed. I still don't. I am simply pointing out that I had invested quite a bit of my time and money in the memorials for those soldiers and Karen couldn't have cared less.

I'm one of those individuals who don't respond very well to candy-coated ultimatums, and so I quit Find-A-Grave, rather than rolling over to Miss Miserable and the two staff members of Find-A-Grave. They never had any intention of ever listening to my side of the story. But just in case you're wondering, I never removed any of the references to my website in those memorials and just went on to transfer all of my memorials to hundreds of other historically interested members. So, don't believe the lie that Find-A-Grave has since posted on my member profile (4thmichiganinfantry) stating that I "retired" and that they now manage them. I quit, and the loss was theirs.
