How do you secure the bullets in the frames?

The bullets are simply pressed into the foam backing by closing the glass top. No adhesives are used. That way I can take the bullets out or rearrange them anytime I want to make a change to the display.

The Union bullets I displayed are the standard ammunition for the Federal infantryman - the .58 caliber minie ball for the Springfield rifle.

The Confederate billets are those commonly used by the Southern troops - Belgianettes, 2-ring Gardner's, French Dragoons, British Towers, and some crossovers like Enfields and smoothbores.

The number of bands on the minneball. I believe the Confederate uses three while the Union is two. But don't hold me to that.

You've got it reversed. Union had 3 rings and Confederate bullets have 2 rings.

I've done the same thing with roundballs, I put them into a mason jar my grandfather found.

Nice Display. Collecting bullets is a whole catagory in its self as there were over 400 different types of ammo used during the CW and some a VERY expensive.
