Brag for my wife

Thought I would share my wife Lori's latest project, her dress and first scratch bonnet. She started her summer sheer dress on Sunday and is just about done with the bodice and under bodice (or whatever the real terms for those things are.

Beautiful...whatever the correct terms are. She's very talented.

Thank you. She slapped me in the back of the head and said I did not post a picture with the lace dickie and sleeves or whatever women call the fake blouse. She has told me all the correct terms for this stuff, but can remember all that?

She did a lovely job, really lovely.

The bodice is called a "bodice" or "body" in period.
The "under-bodice thingy" is a "half high lining" if attached to the dress, a "corset cover" if not attached.
The "lace dickey" is called a "chemisette" if it looks like a shirt without sides, or a "tucker" if it looks like a long scarf.
The "under-sleeves" are called "sleeves" usually in period, but re-enactors usually call them "under-sleeves" to mark them as different from the sleeves attached to the dress.

You did a fine job in describing the various aspects of her dress. The terms may not have been precisely correct, but we understood what you were speaking of.

Thank you Elaine, no doubt I will remember that as long as I did when Lori told me about them. Next weekend at Spotsylvania, when the folks from the unit ask me, they will be the under bodice thingy, lace dickey and undersleeves. Lori being the dear sweet flower of the South she is, will break out her claw hammer, crack me in the back of the head and tell everyone, "ignore him, he is an idiot."
