More than 150 years after it sank off Cape Hatteras inside the warship Monitor, a woolen coat discarded by a Union sailor trying to escape the doomed Civil War ironclad is approaching another milestone.

That's truly amazing! I have always admired textile conservators (having known some), and their ability to work with such precision and patience over a decade is pretty overwhelming. Thanks for posting that, CM!
 
Thanks for posting this CMWinkler.

Seeing a Confederate jacket excavated from the earth and preserved was pretty amazing. Thus goes beyond that. A Union Naval jacket removed from the sea and preserved.

..."Confederate jacket excavated from the earth"... Where and when was this if I may trouble you for a link? This sounds just as fascinating.
