Major William Bradley was Court Martialed for shooting and killing his superior officer, Lt. Col. Thomas T. Vimont. I have obtained the Court Martial file from the National Archives. I have converted the file to two PDFs and uploaded them to Scribd.

The first file, the testimony in the case, can be found at http://www.scribd.com/doc/28885702/Bradley-Court-Martial-Testimony

Bradley's written defense can be found at http://www.scribd.com/Bradley-s-Defense/d/28885807

I also have Bradley's military file, which I am in the process of uploading and will post a note here when it is done.

I hope these documents may be of use or interest to someone here.

EDIT: Bradley's Military file can be found here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/28908966/Bradley-Military-File

Khalleron,

I enjoyed this very much. Seeing the original handwriting was extremely rare as a treat.

Job well done!!!! Thank you!!!

Respectfully submitted,

My pleasure!

I guess I should mention that the testimony contains quite a lot coarse language - nothing a modern person would not encounter on any primetime drama (except for the n-word, of course), but included in the package was a request from a novelist in 1952 whose request to view the file was turned down on the grounds that it contained too much obscenity and blasphemy to be reproduced.

We're a foul-mouthed generation, LOL.

Khalleron,

Fine curse words were often used in Church, in the Civil War.

I don't think in those days they were concerned about being "Politically Correct."

Khalleron,

Not all of them!

I really doubt anyone ever heard the phrase commonly abbreviated as SOB in Church.

Although one should never say never, I suppose.

What I found amusing was that in 1952 the National Archives was afraid to have this copied, but in 2010 they sent it to me without a qualm.

I found a reference to this incident in an article published in the Rome tri-weekly courier. (Rome, Ga.) January 28, 1864.
The named was misspelled.

Also find a grave info for LT Col. Thomas T. Vimont

I would be interested in where you find legal Army proceedings from this period and later.

Was his brother court martialed?
