We have two family photos of William L. Farrow of Putnam County, Indiana during the Civil War.

These were inherited with the papers of his father, Richard S. Farrow.

The documents include William's obituary, which says he was a 1st Lt. in the Mexican War, a Lt. Col. in the 43rd and a Col. in the 78th.

His service in the 43rd is summarized on the NPS Civil War website:

Farrow, William L.

BATTLE UNIT NAME:43rd Regiment, Indiana Infantry
SIDE:Union
COMPANY:F&S
SOLDIER'S RANK IN:Major
SOLDIER'S RANK OUT:Lieutenant Colonel

So here is my question... does the uniform in the earlier (standing) photo correspond to the uniform of a Major?

Thanks,
Mike
