Whip and Spur (1875) is a rather "chatty" memoir by Col. George E. Waring, 4th Missouri cavalry. Actually, it's a tribute to the horses he rode during the war and after -- they are the real focus of the book. It's a delightful read -- no 'hard core' ACW history, but a respectful appreciation of the beasts that he personally rode.
