A thought occurred to me today while driving back from a canceled track meet...When did the Nebraska Bill become widely known as the Kansas-Nebraska Act? The bill itself is entitled "An Act to Organize the Territories of Nebraska and Kansas." Notice that Nebraska comes first. Even in several primary source documents and newspapers the bill is often referred to the Nebraska Bill. So when did the "Nebraska Bill" become officially widely known better as the "Kansas-Nebraska Act"?
