I've posted a few historic photos and drawings on the WhatWasThere.com website. You match the photo to Google Streetview as close as possible. I've matched several photos for Manassas, Chancellorsville, and a number of other battlefields.

There are a number of pictures at Manassas by myself and others. Look for the Stone Bridge, the Stone House, the battlefield from near the Robinson house and the Sudley-Manassas Road south of the Warrenton Road intersection.
Some of the locations seem to lose their integrity as Streetview gets updated.
I had a problem with Thoroughfare Gap because Streetview for westbound I-66 was fogged out when I posted it. Streetview has now been fixed, and you can see Chapman's Mill clearly from the westbound lane now.

Disgusting to see how completely "progress" has destroyed the historic scene so that tricks like this are necessary. I haven't been in some of these places for 25 years, and then many were still out-of-the-way!

A few more - I had intended to post these a while ago but forgot ...

Note Re Chapman's Mill at Thoroughfare Gap: The Streetview westbound lane has been redone in clear conditions and I have moved the photo so that it is closer to the structure: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/65110

Franklin TN - The Carter House: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/66228
Franklin TN - The Cotton Gin: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/66113
Glendale Battlefield VA - Frayzer's Farm: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/65414
Malvern Hill VA - The Willis Church Parsonage: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/63896
I could not find any decent pictures of this building while it was standing

Gettysburg PA: Chambersburg Pike west from Wisler House: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/65030
Gettysburg PA - Wisler House: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/62006
Chickamauga GA - Reed's Bridge: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/64983
Note that the modern bridge is not exactly where the original was during the battle, but close enough ...

Chickamauga GA - Lee & Gordon's Mill: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/64982
Note: the original mill burned down sometime after the civil war and was rebuilt

Sharpsburg MD - Principal Street (now Main St): http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/64981
Wichita KS - Main & Douglas Sts: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/63492
I think this may have been an Alexander Gardner shot. I haven't been to KS yet but it seems to have changed A LOT.

Holt's Corner VA (Start of the Battle of Saylor's Creek): http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/63035
Note: the Streetview apparently does not exist now for this view but it was there when I first posted it.
Fort Fisher NC - Battery Buchanan: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/62708

I have a few more and will post them later. For now check out:
Skidmore, MO (1981) - Ken McElroy's Silverado: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/61906

McElroy was a gentleman who so riled up the citizens of Skidmore that a couple of them got out rifles and shot up him and his pickup in broad daylight. If you turn off the picture and turn the Streetview around half a turn, you will see the small bar where about 40 witnesses claimed that they were all hiding under a pool table when the bullets started flying. They saw nothing and no one was ever convicted. A book In Broad Daylight by Harry MacLean and a TV movie starring Brian Dennehy were made about this guy.

Holy cow, that's just up the road a piece. That was all we saw on Channel 2 news for weeks after it happened. I'm told that my g'grandpa Lester was in on Ken's operation.

I always thought his Silverado was bigger than that.

Gettysburg PA - McPherson Farm: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/62004
Monterey Pass (area) PA: view toward the tapeworm railroad: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/61970
Near here, the rebels set up 2 cannons to obstruct the pursuing Federals during the retreat from Gettysburg
Monocacy Junction MD - Railroad Station: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/62592
Malvern Hill VA - Crew/Crewe House: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/62431
Malvern Hill VA - Union view toward rebel approach: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/61835
Cedar Mountain VA: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/62082
Old Cold Harbor VA - http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/61833
There is actually an old deserted house with dormers at this location which looks a little like Burnett's Tavern. I always thought this is a civil war site that should be preserved.
Manassas VA - Henry Hill: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/61907
This photo was originally taken about 200' south of the road on the far side of the Robinson house. If you really squint, you can see the ruined foundation of the Henry House on the right horizon.

Sheldon VT - covered bridge: http://www.whatwasthere.com/b/61914
Following the holdup of 3 St Albans banks in 1864, the rebel raiders tried to set this bridge on fire to slow down a pursuing posse. They failed and the fire was put out by townspeople.
