I've been doing Author Talks for A Rebellious Woman, my new book about Belle Boyd. I want to be able to tell people what percentage of Civil War battles were fought in Virginia as opposed to battles fought elsewhere in the South. Does anyone have information about this? This could be a comparison of number of battles, number of combatants, or any other useful means of exploring the question. Thanks!

Here's a basic place to start. Virginia had the most battles of any state followed by Tennessee. There was very little Unionist guerrilla warfare in Virginia but quite a bit of Confedrate guerilla warfare in what would become West Virginia. For the most part or at least a significant part of Union counterinsurgency in West Virginia was carried out by West Virginia Union Army and or Unionist Milita/ Homeguards.

I'm not sure how to respond to each of you separately. But this is great information. Thank you all so much!
