What if Abraham Lincoln had not been assassinated? How would the post-war actions and enviornment be altered? How would the reconstruction of the south been any different?

Well, if Lincoln had been alive for reconstruction,I beleive there would have been more leaniancy toward the South. He wanted to reunite the country with as little discrimination as possible. The thing that caused most people to become angered at the South was HIS ASSASINATION. The South most likely would have not been split up into military zones ect. and reconstruction would have been less hindered and had less oppression. That is to say, there still would have been resistance to change and such due to the new freedom of African Americans.
