Discussions of Civil War guerrilla and partisan warfare usually focus on Missouri and Tennessee, plus Mosby in Virginia. What about West Virginia? As a de facto border state with the residents very divided between Union and Confederate. While doing genealogy recently I came across someone who had a son in the CSA army and, presumably for that reason, was killed by pro-Union guerrillas.

Any thoughts on the subject? Or good books/articles about it?

McNeill's Rangers by Delaughter published as part of the Howard Regimental series. It's pricey.
