Here are two photographs taken from nearly the same location on the west face of Little Round Top nearly 40 years apart. On the top is Mathew Brady's mid-July 1863 image looking south across the recently constructed works of the 91st Pa. towards Big Round Top. The image on the bottom was taken from the same location ca. 1900 and includes the 44th/12th NY monument as well as the Big Round Top observation tower. Notice the tall pine tree at left center has had all the lower limbs trimmed off in the bottom image. This witness tree survived until coming down in a storm in 1979.

What? They've taken down the 44th/12th NY monument?

My picture is similar to your picture, Greg, but you can see the 44th NY monument that is partially obscured by a tree.

Thanks @Gettysburg Greg for an excellent view. We have several different now views. I like all of them, and I see changes the NPS need to make in cutting down some trees. We need less trees and more views. Thanks again Greg.

According to the modern photo, the landscape appears to have been visibly changed from the two earlier photos.
