Were Confederate soldiers tried for treason? (It’s complicated…)

it is not odd at all. Revolution is a natural right, and you have to win the revolution for it to stick. Revolution and Secession are two different things.

I don't understand why this has to be repeated so often on this site. A natural right to revolution is not a constitutional right.

It's a natural right - like when slaves rise up against their masters.

That is odd, as if it's a natural right, it would make little sense to hold exercising that right against them..........it's either a right or it isn't.

And so if the slaves are put down, there was no natural right on the part of the slaves seems the argument of some.

Revolution- a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favor of a new system.

Secession - the action of withdrawing formally from membership of a federation or body, especially a political state.

Secession is legal if there is a defined process for doing so in the fundamental law or treaty that the organization operates under. Our Constitution has no mechanism for a state to leave our Union, only for a state to join (or be split up). Therefore Secession is, as the Texas v White decision proclaimed;
"Considered therefore as transactions under the Constitution, the ordinance of secession, adopted by the convention and ratified by a majority of the citizens of Texas, and all the acts of her legislature intended to give effect to that ordinance, were absolutely null. They were utterly without operation in law."

In other words it would be the same as you or I proclaiming our house and land we owned were now an independent country. Which means it would have absolutely no meaning.
Quite clear.

Is this an invitation to discuss modern politics?
