During the retreat from Chickamauga, Watkins led the rearguard of the Army of the Cumberland. I know Powell has an appendix dedicated to the actions of the brigade, though I have not gotten to it yet.
 
According to one source, His brigade (3rd brigade, 1st division of the Cavalry Corps of the Military Division of the Mississippi ) ceased to exist on January 23, 1865.It was divided up among the other brigades in the Division.
