Contrary to what many people may believe there was a lot of dissent in the Southern Confederacy and there were a lot of citizens opposed to their Presidents policies. As the war progressed President Davis suspended habeus corpus on three different occasions for a total of 16 months. The South was the first side to introduce conscription, and impressment laws which angered many. The stomachs of the Confederate Army were frequently fed by taking what they needed from less than willing farmers.

Many States Rights advocates in the South saw this as a violation of their sacred rights and they started to believe that they had traded one tyrant in Washington D.C. for another in Richmond. What do you think?
