Was Benjamin Grierson's Cavalry Raid in Mississippi Underrated In The Vicksburg Campagin?

I get the impression Van Dorn's womanizing was an open secret. Duels were meant to be fought between gentlemen to satisfy honor, but if Van Dorn was not regarded as a gentleman there was no social stigma for declining a duel.

Wide open.

Thanks guys! You made me curious and so I looked him up. Well - ladies and cavalry officers seem to be a mix like nitro and glycerine! Van Dorn may not have been a gentleman, but he certainly was not boring. You learn something new here every day...
