What isn't apparent in that raw number is that McLaws had lost three out of four generals, a significant number of colonels & three out of four captains in command of batteries.
Forgot to say this earlier - but only two of McLaws' four brigadier generals were casualties. Barksdale and Semmes were killed; Kershaw and Wofford came through unscathed.
