Vicksburg from above. What is this?

The battlefield was in horrible shape due to farming and erosion when it became a Park. Almost everything had to be reconstructed by the CCC. These photos will give you a good idea of the condition before being restored. http://www.mdah.ms.gov/arrec/digital_archives/series/573
Thanks for posting. I think some of the pictures are from a booklet published early on and called Vicksburg Vistas, which are available online, but the clarity and quality of the pictures unfortunately make it difficult for me to see clearly. Some copies are in some far away libraries, but I wonder if even then the photos would be clear enough. I can see the Jewish cemetery markers, where the 2nd Texas Lunette was, but the Lunette was already turned into a cemetery by this time. Still the photos are pretty neat. I wonder if modern technology could make them clearer?

Looking further, I am pretty amazed at some of these photos. On one, I can clearly see the valley where the Yankees came up out of and were hit point blank by the Texans. The markers where Benton and Burbridge made their attempts can be seen. And the Jewish cemetery where the lunette was is clearly visible. Great photos!

I've seen the pictures of the bridges and all are labeled 1, 2, 3 ect. Does the numbering start at the visitors center and follow the tour route?
