Do you have information on the The department of the Gulf CSA.

Great project !

Those five months are an entirely different order of battle than what most cite when discussing the Confederate forces at Vicksburg.
It's very confusing until this day.

Regiments are confused with battalions, battalions are confused with Brigades and they all shared the same "numbers".
Infantry (this or that number) . . . had the same numbers with the cavalry and artillery units.

And while nothing against both the North or South civilian press . . . they were not too worried about specific details at the time.
They were worried about getting their "War" stories back to the printer for immediate publication.
(Nothing ever changes)

Unfortunately, over the years . . . many "well meaning amateur historians" . . . took these articles as the truth.
That didn't help anything.

Quick personal example of such confusion:

As a kid, I heard that my Great Great Grandfather was with the 2nd Mississippi at Gettysburg.
I never questioned that . . . until I was an adult and began some serious research.

My first realization was . . . he was in his 40's at the start of the War.
There was no way he would be accepted into a regiment composed of young soldiers !
Moreover, that "2nd Mississippi Regiment" was from North Mississippi.

My GG Grandfather lived along the Mississippi/ Louisiana border . . . hundreds of miles away from this "2nd Mississippi".

But . . . I did determine he was in a Regiment of "militia" from South Mississippi . . . The 2nd Mississippi State Troops. (Quinn's)

They were posted at Milldale.
(North of Vicksburg in support of the Hayne's and Snyder's Bluff Fortifications . . . until October, 1862)

My point . . . don't take anything you've "heard" for granted.

Always research everything.

Ageod Civil War ain't the best source when it comes to this. I believe the 1863 scenario, it just caries over Jackson's and Gladden's brigades at Shiloh. Only the 21st Alabama was in Mobile as far as I know from those units

I did find that a lot of the regiments from the 2 brigades were in Moblie at that part in time.
