I need a little help from you good folks. I am researching my great great grandfather, Joseph McCasson. From what I've learned so far he was in the Marines during the USCW. I'm trying to get information and I don't know where to look. I've researched other ancestors but I knew their state and company etc. he was born 1838 in New Jersey and died 1/5/1880 in New Castle, DE. Any help would be much appreciated!

Try contacting HQUSMC to see if he's listed on any rosters from the Civil War period, many Marines were posted to Ship Board Marine Detachments both on Ships of the line and ships on blockade duty as well as a few shore stations.

You might also try the national Museum of the Marine Corps research section https://www.usmcmuseum.com/

Glad you're getting some good info here! I must confess, I've not had the opportunity to research any Civil War sailors or marines so am not familiar at all with their records.
