I went back to the site today and found this carbine bullet.
It's a .52 calibre Josyln Carbine bullet - unfired.
Several of these types have been found in the Shiloh area from what I've been told.
This one was found in the Vicksburg campaign area of west central Mississippi.
I don't know much about this type of carbine, but I'm about to research it!
If anyone has any info they can pass along it would be appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

Okay, I'm a little embarrassed but also excited. This is not a .52 calibre - it's an even rarer .44 calibre. Fired from a .44 Army Joselyn Revolver. There were only 3,000 of these revolvers ever made! 250 of these were contracted for the navy, the rest were army usage. These revolvers, like their carbine rifle counterparts, were failures in combat and manufacturing of these weapons ceased.
But I'm floored at how rare this bullet appears to be.

Now I know what to get you for Christmas. :D
